AZADI welcomes essays, analysis, reporting, interviews, reviews, translations, movement documents, cultural work and solidarity notes connected to South Asia and its diasporas.
You do not need institutional credentials or a polished pitch. We particularly want to make room for organisers, workers, students, independent researchers, translators and people writing from movements or places that are poorly represented in English-language publishing.
What to send
A short note explaining what you want to write, why it matters, and whether a draft already exists is enough. If you are proposing a translation, tell us who wrote the original text and whether permission is available or needed.
Editing
Editing should be collaborative. We may suggest structural, factual or stylistic changes, but we will not silently change a writer's political argument. Significant edits should be visible to and agreed with the writer before publication.
Safety and anonymity
If publishing under your legal name, location or biography could expose you or others to state, employer, family, far-right or other retaliation, tell us. We can discuss pen names, reduced biographical detail, delayed publication and safer contact methods. Do not send highly sensitive secrets through the public web form.
Languages
We accept work in English and Urdu now and want to expand publication and translation across South Asian languages. A piece does not need to begin in English to belong here.
